Deep-Sea Mining Applications

The animation opens on a Pacific view containing Hawaiʻi and the Clarion-Clipperton Zone, zooms into the zone without changing the map, traces 57 estimated contract-area polygons, then zooms directly into one contract area until only the blue ocean remains. The view transitions to a mining vehicle stirring a sediment plume on the seafloor. It then returns to the CCZ map, draws a square control zone below the contract areas, and explains how contractors compare their mining activity with a baseline. Next, Argus X opens to reveal five deep-sea mining sensors: salinity and conductivity, temperature, optical backscatter and turbidity, pH and dissolved oxygen, and depth. It then opens on the CCZ in a vector map, zooms into one four-corner contract polygon, drops Argus X nodes at one-kilometer intervals around its perimeter, and marks the spacing. The map then zooms back out for interactive exploration. Selecting an estimated contract area shows perimeter nodes and illustrative hardware and NEXUS order totals. The traced contract boundaries and control zone are illustrative, not official coordinates.
